The City gives you 24 hours. We're gone in six.

Seasonal snow and ice contracts for Calgary driveways, condo complexes and commercial lots. We watch the radar, we roll at 5 cm, and the salt goes down on the same run. You never have to call. You just wake up to bare pavement.

  • 6-hour clear window, in writing
  • 14 trucks · 4 loaders · 2 sanders

The Calgary rule nobody reads until they get the ticket

Snow stops. Your clock starts.

00:00 Watch · radar only

00:00 HOUR ZERO

The last flake lands.

Our dispatch board flips from watch to run. Every property on a seasonal contract is already on a route sheet with a truck number beside it. Nobody phones us. Nobody has to.

02:00 PRIORITY

Commercial walks, daycares, medical access.

Anywhere the public walks before 7 a.m. gets cleared and salted first. Photo log timestamped to the minute, sent to your site contact before the doors open.

06:00 BOARD CLEAR

Every residential contract is done.

Driveway to bare pavement, edges cut square, front walk and the city sidewalk you're on the hook for. Salt down on the walking surfaces before we leave the property.

24:00 THE CITY'S DEADLINE

You've been clear for eighteen hours.

Section 67 of Calgary's Street Bylaw gives you 24 hours after snowfall stops to clear the public sidewalk beside your property down to bare surface. Miss it and the ticket escalates:

First offence
$250
Second
$500
Third
$750
City clears it
$150+

Fines escalate within any rolling 12 months. If a City crew does the work, you're invoiced a $150 minimum flat rate plus GST and an admin fee on top of the ticket. Source: calgary.ca — bylaws related to snow and ice.

Six hours isn't a marketing number. It's the window written into your contract — and if we blow it, that visit is free and so is the next one.

The part out-of-town contractors get wrong

In Calgary the snow isn't the problem. The thaw is.

A Calgary driveway mid-chinook: a hard-edged chinook arch across the sky, meltwater running toward the garage and refreezing into a glaze.
The chinook arch, and what sits under it. Snow that melts at noon runs to the low spot by your garage door and welds itself to the concrete by four in the afternoon.

A chinook can pull this city from −22 to +9 in a single afternoon. Everything on your driveway melts, runs to the low spot by the garage door, and freezes into a sheet by dinner.

That sheet is what breaks hips and what generates the slip-and-fall claim your insurer will ask about. Plowing alone doesn't touch it. Neither does dumping rock salt at −20, when salt has basically stopped working.

So we treat for the swing, not the storm.

  1. 1

Brine goes down before the melt

Liquid anti-icer sprayed on the pad while it's still cold. It stops the meltwater from bonding to the concrete in the first place — far cheaper than chipping it off later.

  2. 2

Pickled sand on the traction surfaces

Steps, the walk to the mailbox, the slope down to a basement suite. Sand works at temperatures where salt has quit. It's what gets you to the car without a fall.

  3. 3

A re-treat pass on the back half

When the temperature drops back through zero — usually late afternoon — we come back. Most contractors are already done for the day. That return pass is the whole job.

Seasonal or per-visit — here's the honest difference

One price for the winter, or pay per storm.

Seasonal is a fixed number you can budget. Per-visit is cheaper in a light year and much worse in a heavy one — and you get cleared after every contract on the board. We'll tell you straight which one suits your street.

      What Calgary actually says.

"We're on a corner lot in Killarney so I've got about sixty feet of city sidewalk. I got ticketed twice the winter before I called these guys. Zero since, and I've stopped setting a 5 a.m. alarm every time the forecast looks bad."
      DMDave M.Killarney · 4th season
"Our board asked for a service log we could actually put in the minutes. They send timestamped photos after every run. Our insurer stopped asking questions at renewal."

"Snowed 18 cm overnight in February. I looked out at 5:40 in the morning and the driveway was already black. Still don't know when they came."
      KTKaren T.Tuscany · 2nd season
"Cheapest quote I got was eighty dollars under theirs. I went with the cheap guy one year and spent most of January shovelling anyway. Won't do that again."
      MOMarcus O.McKenzie Towne · 3rd season
"I had a hip replaced in October and I was dreading the winter. They salt the front steps and the path to the mailbox every single time without me ever having to ask. That's the part I'd tell my neighbours about."

The questions we get on the phone every October

      Straight answers.

A Calgary bungalow at first light with the driveway and sidewalk already cleared, a plow truck pulling away at the edge of the frame.

Still not sure which plan fits?

Tell us your address and how many people walk up to your door in a week. Two minutes on the phone and we'll tell you which plan you need — including when the answer is the cheap one.

Call (403) 555-0176 Send it in writing instead

Office hours 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Oct–Apr. The storm line is answered 24 hours during an active snow event.

Accumulated snow depth measured at our Bowness and Seton yards. On Standard and Priority plans, 5 cm on the ground sends the fleet out. On First Light it's 2 cm. If it snows 3 cm on a Standard plan we don't come — and you don't get billed.

An event over 15 cm counts as two visits on per-visit accounts. Seasonal accounts are unlimited, however heavy the winter gets.

No. That's the whole point of a seasonal contract. Our dispatcher watches the Environment Canada radar and the yard gauges and calls the run. You get a text when your route is closed, usually before you're up.

Per-visit customers do have to call, and you'll be cleared after every seasonal contract on that route — often several hours later.

Do the math on your own driveway. A Standard Route double is $545 for the season. Per-visit on the same property is $75. That's break-even at eight dispatches. We ran fourteen last winter and nineteen the winter before.

Take per-visit if you travel most of the winter, if you're physically able to handle the small ones yourself, or if you just want a backup for the big dumps. Take seasonal if you want a fixed number and no decisions at 5 a.m.

Yes, and you should add it. That strip is the one the City fines you over — Section 67 of the Street Bylaw, 24 hours after snowfall stops, cleared to bare surface. It's $95 for the season on a standard mid-block lot, $165 on a corner.

It's the single cheapest thing on our price list relative to what it saves you.

On every seasonal plan: salt on the walking surfaces on every visit, and a pickled-sand pass on steps and slopes when it's too cold for salt to do anything. On First Light we also spray liquid brine on the pad before the event.

We don't use straight rock salt below about −12 °C because it stops working. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you a bag of nothing.

The contract runs November 1 to April 15. If we get a real event outside those dates — and in Calgary we usually do — seasonal customers get one shoulder-season visit at no charge on each end. After that it's the per-visit rate.

That visit is free and so is the next one. It's clause 6 in the contract, not a slogan. We've paid it out eleven times since 2011 — twice in the April 2023 storm when we simply ran out of daylight.

If a bylaw ticket lands on a property we hold a seasonal contract on and we were outside our window, we pay the ticket.

Yes — one-time cleanups start at $95 for a double driveway, more if it's packed or been sitting through a freeze-thaw. Book by phone; we usually get to you within 48 hours outside an active event.

Seasonal contracts: e-transfer, Visa, Mastercard, or four equal payments on the 1st of November through February. Commercial accounts are net 30 on invoice.
